Julian is in the back and Fernanda is in the front by me :)
This little girl right by me in this pic is amazing. She is 7 and she pretty much has the strongest faith I have ever seen, especially in one so young. It's amazing what you learn about people when you truly take the time to just listen.
The mother of these two children is Maribel who we have just begun teaching these past couple weeks. Her husband is a less-active member, but Maribel doesn't have any religious background and doesn't know hardly anything about the Church. Their family's story is amazing, and it was while listening to Maribel tell of this story that we came to know of the faith of the little girl in the picture with me above. Julian, her brother who is also in the picture, was very very sick; it got to the point where he had to be hospitalized. Maribel told us of how Fernanda prayed for her brother and how she told her mom that her prayer was answered because Julian is back home and improving daily. Their family was going through a rough time again and Fernanda told her mother that she just knows Heavenly Father will answer their prayers and help them because her prayer was answered with Julian, and He always hears and answers her prayers. What faith! It made me step back and realize that I can work on developing my faith to be like the faith of this sweet little girl. And it was a reminder that faith is a powerful tool that can bring about miracles. Our Heavenly Father loves us so much and this little girl knew that. She knew it and had faith that because of that love her Father in heaven would answer her prayers.
Something important I learned from my companion this week is that I need to accept that i am not going to be perfectly prepared for every situation on my mission, but if I do my part and work with all of my heart, might, mind, and strength, I have the Lord's promise that I will know what to say and do in every situation and in every moment. I just need to be prepared to listen, be willing to follow the promptings of the Spirit, and have FAITH; it's then that I will be prepared.
It's no wonder that faith is the first principle of the gospel...
Love,
Hermana Olivia Nicolosi :)
