This week was a good week. I am learning so much and I feel so blessed.
This week, basically for the first time since I've been here in Monterrey, my companion and I had the opportunity to serve! Just about everyone here says "no gracias" (no thank you) when we offer to help them with something, and it makes me so sad when that happens because honestly, we aren't offering to help just to be nice, we really do want to serve! So when this dear old lady (Maria Chapa) that we contacted as she was cleaning her fence, allowed us to come back the next day to do it for her, I felt so happy. :)
It reminded me of the importance of not only serving OTHERS, but allowing others to serve US as well. Anyway, we finished cleaning Maria Chapa's gate with the help of a member who lived nearby (Ada), then we stayed and shared a message with her. We said the prayer and then Hermana Martinez mouthed the word "oracion" (prayer), so I began talking about prayer, explaining how we begin and end a prayer and how special and sacred it is for us to be able to communicate with our Father in Heaven... When I finished, Hermana Martinez added her thoughts and, to my surprise, she made a transition into a story—the story of Joseph Smith and the Restoration. After she finished I picked up where she left off at the First Vision. The sister we were teaching, Maria, was paying close attention and was very interested as we unfolded our message to her. After I finished with the First Vision, I tied the lesson back into prayer, which we were talking about at the beginning of the lesson. I bore my testimony that our loving Heavenly Father hears our prayers, just like he heard the prayer of a young boy, and that He will answer our prayers if we pray in faith and with real intent because He loves us and wants us to feel of His love and have His guidance in our lives. We finished the lesson talking about Jesus Christ and his baptism... I can't give all the details but I felt so happy after this lesson because Maria was sincerely taking everything in that we spoke about with interest. I know the Spirit was guiding my companion and I to have more unity and teach according the needs of this sister. It was funny because afterwards I found out that my companion mouthed the word "restauracion" (Restoration) at the beginning of the lesson, not "oracion" haha. But the Restoration and prayer fit quite nicely together. We were able connect them well as we taught by the Spirit.
It's so fulfilling to be teaching something not knowing exactly what your going to say beforehand. As you speak, feeling the words come by the Spirit while learning new things and connecting gospel principles you didn't really think about or understand, all as you say the very words that come directly by the Spirit, is so fulfilling.
I love you all!
Love,
Hermana Nicolosi
